According to Engadget, citing Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is in late-stage testing for a 2026 Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 with new processors and upgraded health and fitness capabilities, but no major redesign. The Apple Watch SE refresh is also not expected this cycle.
The Apple Watch has entered the mature phase of consumer hardware. The upgrade pitch is now speed, sensors, and efficiency rather than a new silhouette. If you own a recent model, there's less visual incentive to trade up.
Apple's fall event will be the test. Without a fresh design, the company must lean hard on health tracking breakthroughs and performance gains to justify a 2026 upgrade for Series users and to keep the Ultra from feeling like expensive stagnation.
The mature smartphone pattern is landing on your wrist. Apple believes the watch is good enough on the outside and that the money is in the parts you can benchmark or feel over time. Smart product strategy, weak upgrade bait. For Apple, it raises pressure on software and health features. For customers, it lowers urgency to spend on Series 12 in 2026.
