According to The Verge, Google expanded its Ask Maps feature so users can make more conversational requests inside Maps, including ordering takeout, finding hotels, and getting suggestions based on saved places and existing plans. The update also brings more agent-style actions and Gemini Personal Intelligence into the app.
This pushes Maps deeper into the part of the internet where intent turns into money. Search helped you find a restaurant. Maps now wants to handle the decision, the route, and the order before you ever open DoorDash, Uber Eats, or a restaurant's own app.
The test is whether people trust Maps to get the details right. Ordering food sounds simple until the AI misses a dietary restriction, chooses the wrong pickup time, or nudges users toward whichever merchants are easiest for Google to integrate.
Google's best AI strategy is not another chatbot tab. It's slipping automation into products people already use with a destination in mind. If Maps can turn "pick dinner on my way home" into a completed transaction, Google gets something more valuable than attention: the last click before money moves, inside Google Maps.
