According to The Verge, Meta launched Pocket, an app where users generate interactive AI "gizmos" by typing prompts, then share them on a social feed for others to try. The app builds on technology Meta acquired from Atma Sciences, which had previously shipped a similar product called Gizmo.
Meta is testing whether AI-generated mini apps can become a new unit of social content. Users would become creators of interactive experiences, not just consumers. That means more engagement, more time on feed, and a constant supply of shareable stuff without waiting for developers to build it.
Pocket could stay a standalone experiment or get baked into Instagram, Facebook, or Threads. A separate app is low-risk. Distribution inside Meta's main feeds is where this either becomes a real content format or fades.
Zuckerberg is trying to invent a new social unit. Not a photo. Not a Reel. A tiny AI app anyone can make in seconds. The upside for Meta is obvious: interactive feeds hold attention longer, and AI drops creation costs to nearly zero. The downside is just as real. Most people don't want feeds packed with half-baked prompt toys. Social products die fast when creation gets easier than curation.
