According to The Verge, newly surfaced FCC documents point to a new Sonos headphone model, S52A, and one filing appears to name it Sonos Ace Ultra. The report also notes CEO Tom Conrad recently hinted that a Sonos headphone follow-up is coming this fall, with filings suggesting more color options than the current black and white lineup.
Sonos does not get many free shots in hardware. A second headphone matters because the first Ace proved Sonos could build premium cans, but it did not become a must-buy in the way the company once made soundbars and multiroom speakers feel inevitable. This sequel has to do more than sound good. It has to give buyers a reason to stay inside the Sonos ecosystem after a bruising stretch for the brand.
The immediate tells are simple: price, software features, and whether Sonos keeps the “Ultra” label in the final branding. If the company announces them this fall, watch for tighter TV audio handoff and a clearer pitch on why these beat Bose, Sony, or Apple for people who already own a Sonos setup.
Sonos is trying to turn a category experiment into a real product line. Smart move. But “Ultra” raises the bar fast, and Sonos has little room for another launch that feels polished in industrial design but thin in payoff. Headphones are a brutal market because buyers compare them against giants with years of iteration. Sonos needs one killer convenience feature people use every day, not just a nicer spec sheet with a new name.
